Cakes

For those of you who know my family, or went to my wedding, you know that my sister Jaisha is an amazing cake decorator. Or is it decatrice? There’s no way of knowing at this point so I will stick with just saying that she is incredible. I truly believe it! My wedding cake turned out to be a masterpeice.  Beautiful white fondant with purple flowers and dark purple ribbon with a cake topper of a seemingly innocent bride and groom. Secret to the topper was the if you looked from behind, you could see the bride pinching the baboosh of the groom. My darling cousin Chaley was the one who so generously loaned that to us.
Now, back to Jaisha. She is fantastic at fondant, flowers and imagination when it comes to her cakes. I believe the only thing she is lacking is a little training and a couple recipes for butter cream. That and her very own studio to create masterpieces J.
I was more than happy to let her be the cake star and I would do something else, but one day the urge to try hit me and I ended up making some delicious cake balls, chocolate covered strawberries, a small anniversary cake for my John and eventually a giant graduation cake. All of these experiences taught me one thing…I am good at making cakes. But not fondant. I never cared for the taste and I’m not all that great with working it. My talent rests with butter cream, melted chocolate and making cakes dense and delicious.
John is 100% my biggest fan and supporter and he bought me a Wilton cake decorating starter kit and a month’s worth of classes at Michael’s crafts! Plus he volunteers as my taste tester. He is honest and sweet which is what you want when you are putting yourself out there and trying something new. Heaven bless him J.
Anywho, that’s what we are doing at the Kelley’s house now. I am learning to make cakes so I can open my own cake studio and sell out of my home and then out of a small shop. That’s the dream!
Here is a peek at some of my creations thus far:

Little Things...

Little things about my relationship with John make me realize just how lucky I am to be with him. John is the kind of man that if he had $2 to his name he would use one to buy something to make someone smile and the other to save up to buy something bigger for someone else. He is selfless, kind and loyal to the max.
When we started dating he did little surprises all the time just to make me smile. That hasn’t stopped in the 13 months we have been together and I don’t see it stopping any time soon.
Just yesterday he picked me up from work and the car smelled like food, delicious nutricious and just like heaven food. I asked him about it and he said with a smile “I have a surprise for you!”. I smiled back and said ok! He drove me to this adorable little park in Logan and said that we were going to have a picnic in the park. At first I thought that it would be a LOT too cold to go outside but I went along with it and hopped out of the car. He asked me what I was doing and I said “going for a picnic of course”. He laughed and said “it’s a little too cold outside, let’s just stay in the car.” Whew! What a relief!
He got into the back seat and pulled out a delicious pizza from Subway that he had designed himself and we said a blessing. John is a faithful man in the LDS religion and I am a faithful woman so before we eat, we pray.
The pizza was perfect! He likes peppers and  a lot of them, so the jalapeƱos went to him and the bell peppers and onions stayed with me. Delicious! Warm to the touch and soft to the mouth, this pizza melted just the right way and had the perfect amount of kick.
After we had eaten, we went for a little walk around the park and on a whim, I pushed him and said “Tag! You’re it!” and took off like a mad woman! Here is a picture of what he thought I looked like:

And he was right! He ran after me and for his tag, slapped my booty and ran up a slide! I was thinking do not go down that! It’s freezing and thing was made for a 10 year old at most! But always the adventurer, he climbed up and rode the icey slide of death down and landed in a heap of snow. We both laughed and I ran over to him to see if he was alright. Crazy man J.
I hugged him, took his hands in mine, kissed him and then fell backwards into a pile of snow to make a snow angel. I was wearing exactly the wrong jeans and snow fell down into the most uncomfortable of spots! Aiiiya!! But apart from that it was a beautiful angel. John followed suit and made one right next to mine. Copy cat!
We jumped up and ran back to the safe haven of our warm car and headed home.
Later that night, he had another surprise! He bought us both new toothbrushes and toothpaste just because he noticed that we needed new ones and were running low on toothpaste. He is so thoughtful and observant! I honestly can’t say enough good about this man! He is a treasure and my very best friend.

Happy 5months!
